BULA VINAKA !
Welcome to the website of the Marist Old Boys & Friends (Sydney) Association, an organisation of ex-Marist scholars
from Fiji now residing in Australia.
This website is intended to keep members, friends and fellow old boys overseas informed of our activities and to strengthen
the network of contacts worldwide. The Marist family is indeed a big one and we all share a common thread in our ties to the
schools in Fiji, set up by the dedicated teaching brothers of this order over a hundred years ago. Their legacy remains to this
day but sadly their numbers are dwindling.
When people speak of Marist they speak of Spirit and Standards of Excellence. The Marist Spirit is something special,
worthy of bottling if such a thing can be done. It brings out the best in the individual and in a team environment, it is the
cement that holds the parts together, resilient and unbreakable. Under the guidance of theseteaching brothers, we have
been fortunate to capture this essence which we carry to this day. The spirit of the group.
It is therefore no surprise that the core of our committee consists of boys that have been together for over 30 years. We have
kept in contact for so long and have seen families grow, experiencing the good and the bad times. Our friendship has
endured the test of time. As a group we all share a common vision in helping out the institution that has given so much to us.
Our actions are purely voluntary and our intentions are noble. There are no financial or personal gains for us. Even though our
organisation may be young, our commitment to the group, runs deep.
We believe we can assist the school management and board in undertaking projects that will improve facilities in the school
and improve the standard of education. This will be done through fundraising initiatives overseas and lending expertise from
the myriad of MOB networks worldwide. As our MOBilise 2008 initiative suggests, it is now a time for action - a call to all old
boys to band together to help the institution that has given so much to us.
Please join us on this journey. It is not an easy one and the fruits of our efforts will not be evident immediately but for future
generations, we can say we have done our duty in keeping the spirit alive, with the RED FIRE flame burning ever so brightly.
